Through the UTAC Internship undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Toronto may participate in a significant way in the day-to-day workings of a professionally run, public art gallery, and gain academic credit for the work they do. The tasks interns perform are integral to the workings of UTAC. The tasks generally have an academic component, but are weighted towards practical responsibilities. The Internship is normally offered during the summer terms.
The internship is currently offered through the Department of Art, course number FAH 481H.
Prerequisite: 8 FAH half courses; permission of instructor (Niamh O'Laoghaire)
Exclusion: FAH454H1/455H1

Summer 2012
For the Summer 2012 semesters UTAC has the following positions:
Researchers: up to three students to research and create docent packages for the following fall 2012 exhibitions:
Robert Wilson Video Portraits
Splice: At the Intersection of Art and Medicine
Committed to Paper: Three University Collections.
These students would also develop content for Social Media (Facebook, Twitter) based on their research.
Collections Assistants: up to two students (one each term) to work with the UTAC Collections Manager, Heather Pigat.
The Collections Assistant tasks will involve:
1. Inputting and updating data from hard copy records and an Access system into a new TMS database.
2. Assisting with audit of artworks on display throughout the St. George campus as part of the UTAC Art on Campus program.
The Collections Assistant positions would be ideal for students interested in gaining direct experience with Collections Management in a Museum environment.
