More on art lounge + fresh meet
What is the future of design? As the world is faced by new environmental, social and political challenges, how will design evolve to meet those challenges?
In a world that is constantly changing, the static and autonomous ideologies of traditional design principles can no longer apply. Hive is an installation which looks at the potential of modularity in a design for variability. Using triangular sub-units in a hexagonal configuration, Hive allows for a multitude of arrangements in both temporal and permanent enclosures. These enclosures can be modified according to the needs of the individual and can readily adapt to the constituents of a changing physical environment.
At its potential, Hive blurs the boundaries between landscape and architecture through its self-replicating agency. Hive allows for the creation of a continuous surface that is inhabitable on both sides where variations are created through the simple operations of wrapping, folding and pinching. Hive allows for an indeterminacy in architecture where design is no longer concerned with the hyper-rationalization of program, but instead looks to more opportunistic relationships and interactions as its organizing device.
